For a dog or cat to be eligible for adoption at KHS, they must be spayed or neutered. To be spayed or neutered, puppies must be at least 8 weeks old for males, 12 weeks old for females and kittens must be at least 2 pounds.
The Foster program was created for animals not old enough or large enough for spay/neuter surgery. These animals will go to volunteer homes until they are ready for surgery, which creates more space at KHS for animals that are available for adoption. Foster care also provides more opportunity for these young animals to get socialized and trained. Lastly, the Foster Program offers an environment safe from disease and kennel stress.
If you would like to become a Foster Parent, you must become a KHS volunteer. Please complete a volunteer application and return it to our Volunteer Department – we will contact you with the next available Volunteer Orientation dates.
