NATURE OF WORK:    This position reports to the Executive Director of the Kitsap Humane Society (KHS).  Incumbent is expected to plan, coordinate , and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.  Installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical assistance and training to system users.  Monitors data communications network to ensure that network is available to all system users and resolves data communications problems.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND:  Incumbent must have the following attributes:

 

Ability to design, specify, configure, install, and maintain local area network hardware, software, and telecommunications services such as personal computers, system software, software applications, printers, servers, routes, bridges, switches, modems, cabling, and internet service providers.

 

Ability to develop, communicate, and implement data and computer security policies and procedures.  Analyzes, selects, recommends, and coordinates installation of security software, locks, alarm systems, and other security measures.

 

Ability to monitor modems and display screen of terminal to server to detect error messages that signal malfunction in communications software or hardware.  Ability to enter diagnostic commands into computer to determine nature of problem, and reads codes o screen to diagnose problem. Ability to enter operating commands into computer to restart programs.

 

Ability to install or assist personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives at users desk.

 

Ability to load specified software packages such as operation systems, Office products, or spreadsheet programs into computers.

 

Ability to establish and maintain network users, user environment and directories.

 

Ability to utilize software programs such as Crystal Reports to develop queries assisting  managers in retrieving data useful in making decisions or providing statistics for review.

 

Possess skills to work in a multi-task environment and prioritize tasks as they come up.  Manage time effectively through self motivation and other techniques.

 

Ability to revise, make recommendations and update the KHS Website.

 

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

 

Works closely with the Executive Director, Department Heads and other staff members in resolving issues relating to software and hardware.  Is considered key contact for all IT/computer issues both internally as well as externally to the organization.  Ensure that contracts and purchase orders are completed and appropriately approved.  Responsible for maintenance of software such as Multi-OPS, MAS 90, Microsoft Programs, Alticlient, Fund Raiser Professional and Auction Tracker to name a few. Responsible for managing/working with hardware issues such as telecommunications and computer installations.  Prepares annual IT budget.  Updates documentation to record new equipment installations and changes to computer configurations.  Trains staff and users to use equipment.

 

Reviews computer logs and messages to identify and report on possible violations of security.  Develops and implements tests of computer systems to monitor effectiveness of security.  Develops, coordinates, and implements disaster or emergency recovery procedures for information systems and computer environment.

 

Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems.

 

Researches and evaluates new technologies. Installs and tests software upgrades. Collects and analyzes network and memory utilization.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

COMPLEXITY

 

Must be resourceful, work independently (1 person department) and with external companies resolving immediate issues and recommending improvement to all systems in question.

Candidate must have experience in working with the following software:


Addittionally, should be have PC Diagnostic/Repair skills for hardware.

 

Must possess ability to organize and resolve complex IT problems.

 

This is an non-exempt position.
