Autos, Trailers & Recreational Vehicles

Yes! The Kitsap Humane Society does accept donated vehicles. They must have clear titles, and all vehicles must be in running condition. In addition to cars, we accept items such as boats, jet skis, snowmobiles, commercial vehicles, horse trailers, 5th wheel trailers, tractor-trailers and heavy-duty vans.

We sell these items at auction and devote the proceeds to homeless animals. We take care of the paperwork, and you may be able to claim the “fair market value” of the vehicle (always consult an attorney or tax professional). It’s easy, and your unwanted item can save animals’ lives.

It’s Still Easy
Auto Donation Laws Change in 2005

The New Year brought a change in the IRS guidelines for donating vehicles to charitable organizations. Vehicle donations are still a very important source of funds for KHS. We’ll make it easy for you to continue your generous donations of autos, trucks…even boats and trailers.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, when you donate a vehicle with a declared value of $500 or more, the tax deduction you can claim will be the amount of gross proceeds received for it when it is sold. KHS will provide you with a statement of the sale amount for your tax records.
You may claim the fair market value on your taxes for vehicles donated to KHS for use while conducting charitable work. For this type of donation, the vehicle must not be sold for a minimum of two years.
A detailed brochure on making auto donations is available at the IRS website: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/pub4303.pdf.

Please call Dana Lerma at 360/692-6977 ext. 118 for further details on this form of non-monetary donation.

Thank you for your support of the animals and The Kitsap Humane Society.
