Why Your Help Is Needed

  • The Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is an independent, not-for-profit, donor-supported organization. We are not a branch of any national organization. Except for animal control contracts, we receive no city, county or federal funding, therefore we must rely on you for our future.  KHS provides animal support services for the entire Kitsap Peninsula which has a combined population of approximately 240,000 people. We can do only so much without your assistance-that's why we need your help!

Without sufficient contributions and funding our shelter cannot exist-but a shelter is only a stop-gap to a much bigger problem- companion animal overpopulation. We sincerely hope you will spay/neuter your pet(s) and think of us when it is time to replace your beloved pet.

  • KHS is an Open Admissions Shelter. As such, we accept and care for homeless animals that come to us from our community. We never turn away strays. We work closely with people who can no longer keep their pets, offering referrals to other rescue sources, and take their pet(s) into the shelter if no alternative is available.
  • We provide food, shelter and medical care to thousands of domestic animals each year, including livestock and other barnyard animals. In 2006, we took in thousands of homeless animals in need. Your support is vital in helping us provide these necessities.

  • To help control pet over population, our shelter sterilizes all animals adopted from the shelter before they go to their new home.

  • Because statistics show we are healthier when animals are around, our volunteers take pets to visit people in convalescent homes and special care facilities.
  • Through our Humane Education Program, school children and other members of our community learn proper pet care and the appreciation and humane treatment of animals.
